In horrifying news coming out of the house party you’re at, the conversation you just joined about podcasts is only about the educational ones.
Oh no! Abandon ship now!
“I thought we were just having a fun little convo about the podcasts that bring us joy in our daily lives,” you told reporters. “I didn’t think that meant ‘let’s talk about the pods that are basically just recorded college seminars.’”
Think again, sweetheart!
According to witnesses, you joined the circle when someone asked for podcast recommendations, only to realize your mistake when everyone else gave their answers first.
“I’m obsessed with Philosophize This! right now,” one partygoer, Jordan Pepperman, told everyone around you. “They had some really good takes on Camus, but their breakdown of Susan Sontag’s essays made me look at the entire world differently!”
To your shock and horror, even more people who only listen to podcasts to increase their IQ decided to chime in.
“I’ve been a loyal Planet Money fan since I first got into podcasts,” another party guest, Hayden Matson, added, “It’s so enlightening to see how your own actions play into the economy, and vice versa! I have a totally different understanding of money now.”
Wow! You should probably have that too!
“I just don’t understand,” you told reporters. “I don’t listen to podcasts to learn; I listen to them to escape my own reality. Like, the only podcasts I follow are where people are laughing, screaming, and doing little bits with each other. I can’t even stay awake when I’m listening to people talk about science or math for more than two minutes.”
However, this didn’t stop you from giving your own two cents on the subject.
“I listen to this podcast that dissects all of the Real Housewives’ clothing and jewelry,” you added sheepishly. “It really opened my eyes to… y’know…. the diamond industry and the market of luxury goods in this country! Really, um, really brain tingling stuff!’
Good save, girlie!
“Oh, yeah, that sounds super interesting!” Jordan responded. “Are the Real Housewives, like, historical figures or…?”
At press time, you have started listening to the podcast Stuff You Should Know.
