Despite everything that’s happened this year, it has been a historic time for women. They’ve torn down barriers, forged new ground, created masterpieces, and they’re so freaking adorable they’ve left literally nothing for the rest of us to aspire to. Here are five of those barrier-breaking female trailblazers who are…shit, they are also just sooo cute, goddamn it.
Misty Copeland
Misty Copeland is an incredible inspiration to dancers and non-dancers alike. Defying the odds and the expectations of her many doubters, Misty persevered and became the first black woman to be a principal dancer with the American Ballet Theatre. Also goddamn it, she’s gorgeous. Like holy shit, leave something for the rest of us!
Gloria Steinem
What can we say about Gloria Steinem besides wow and also UGH. She broke new ground in the struggle for women’s rights, co-founded Ms. Magazine, and created the Women’s Media center while also maintaining a body that literally allowed her to go undercover as a Playboy bunny. Seriously, the woman is 83 years old and looks like an Annie Leibowitz wet dream at any and all moments. Like thanks for the liberation, but also no fucking fair!!
Amanda Nguyen
Okay Amanda is changing the way sexual assault is legislated, and it’s fantastic! She’s the president and founder of RISE, which is a non-profit dedicated to passing a Rape Survivors Bill of Rights in all 50 states. She’s named one of Forbes 30 under 30 in 2017 for which she and her beautiful face and hair were photographed. Ugh, and those cheekbones! Like, good God, we’re glad she’s making the world a better place, but how are any of us supposed to feel good about ourselves when she ALSO freaking looks like that? So to Amanda we say YAY and OH COME ON!!
Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
This celebrated author of We Should All Be Feminists and Americanah among others is one of the most brilliant writers of our generation. Also she won a MacArthur Genius Grant and is on a Beyoncé recording. She’s also out of this MFing world gorgeous from her flawless skin to her perfectly confident gait. Like seriously why are we even freaking trying? You’re an inspiration to us all but also deal our self-confidence a devastating blow.
Danica Roem
Wow wow wow: Danica Roem was the first openly transgender woman to be elected to state office. And she beat out was the pile of human remains that drafted the transgender bathroom bill legislation. Also her smile literally shines with the joy and rapture of the sun. She has redefined politics while looking devastatingly perfect in her heavy metal rocker chick outfits. Way to stand up for what’s right Danica, but also we kinda feel like crap in comparison!
We just want to thank all of these fierce ladies for paving the way for the next generation of women. They truly are changing the world and dear holy goodness they’re unconscionably attractive, GodDAMN it. Girls are sooo cute!
