It’s hard to keep in shape these days, what with the demands of modern life and all. There are barely any spare hours in the day to enjoy yourself and catch up with friends let alone keep your body in fighting form. It’s important, then, to make working out a part of your routine in small, less demanding ways. Walking to work instead of driving or taking the stairs to the 18th floor instead of the elevator are small ways I make my life more active without much thought. As another example, here’s why I don’t need to go to a Pilates class because my phone outlet is extremely far from my bed.
Pilates is all about core activation and finding pain in small movements. I can experience this same thing at home by keeping my phone outlet approximately three feet from my bed at all time, such that if I want to charge my phone, I have to engage my core and stretch my body into an ungodly position in order to do so. Did someone say “Chloe Ting”?
You may be wondering, “Are there more outlets in your house such that you’re not required to charge your phone three feet from your bed?” The answer is yes. I have dozens, if not thousands, of outlets, but keeping my phone charger really far from my bed is a conscious choice. It helps me get a quick stretch in every time I try to check what time it is or a sustained ab workout if I’m trying to scroll through Instagram before bedtime.
I would argue that keeping my phone an infuriating distance from my bed is an even better workout than Pilates! I don’t have to hold for a mere 10 or 12 seconds – I’m keeping that pose for hours upon hours while I see what’s new on my ex best friend’s new boyfriend’s Instagram page.
Since I’ve started this practice, many have remarked on the visibility of my abs. I don’t just have a six-pack; I have a ten-pack! That’s where I have eight abs and two boobs that are also really in shape.
So if you’re looking for an easy, extremely painful way to punish yourself for being too lazy to work out and for being on your phone at the same time, try using the outlet that’s juuuust barely out of reach. Thank me later!
