American icon Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis’s Martha’s Vineyard estate was recently listed for sale. However, interested buyers should be prepared to pay, as this is how purchasing homes, and items for sale in general, works.
What else do buyers need to know about this landmark real estate deal? According to the listing’s representative, Bunny Worthington, “In terms of expecting to receive money in exchange for the home, this seller is no exception. The amount could be above, below or at the listing price, but we are definitely looking for an amount of money, honestly probably whoever offers us the most.” Bunny also cautions buyers to read the fine print before making an offer, adding “We are not accepting trades nor are we going to give the buyer ‘this one’ in exchange for them getting the ‘next one.’”
Why so many hoops? For Bunny and the team at Christie’s International Real Estate, “It’s really just the one hoop, where you give us money for a home. It’s not even a hoop. It’s really just a standard purchase. Am I missing something?” So apparently, those looking to offload a herd of cattle or prized collection of minerals in exchange for a home can keep walking.
On the other hand, for the home buyer who can stomach buying a home, this property, known as Red Gate Farm, offers potential residents what can only be described as a “residential experience.” Tom Parsons, a man who once traveled to Martha’s Vineyard for a friend’s wedding, describes this as, “the experience of living in a home.”
Yet, fans of the Kennedy family will have to contend with the notion of their favorite famous family not giving away their home for free, like every other single home seller. For Rebecca Sayers, a person who has heard of the Kennedy family, this comes as, “something that tracks for someone selling their home.” Furthermore, similar to other buying experiences, like buying groceries, is that this experience is a transaction and is unlike other non-buying experiences, such as taking a bath.
Red Gate Farm is currently listed at $200 million dollars.
