While watching The Late Show last night, mother Mary Baker expressed her particular disdain for the Mucinex Mucuses during a commercial break.
“Blech! Not them again,” said Baker. “Where’s the remote? Turn it off.”
The combination of her distaste for the small, villainous mascots and the repeated airing of Mucinex ads during the program seemed to push Baker to her breaking point.
“I just don’t understand who comes up with this,” Baker said. “They’re disgusting and so annoying. Why would anyone want to buy their product after watching this garbage?”
“Ugh, they just disgust me,” Baker added.
The recipient of these comments, Baker’s daughter, Annaleigh Baker, was mostly on board with her mother’s point of view.
“I agree that these commercials are annoying,” she says. “But then she started saying how I’m a writer and that I could come up with something better and it’s like, why does my career always have to come up in everything? Also, I’m a poet.”
Annaleigh tried explaining to her mom that the point of the campaign is that Mucinex will get rid of these intolerable mucus characters, but the effort was in vain.
“I understand the concept!” said Mary Baker. “But it doesn’t work. They’re obnoxious, and I would never buy Mucinex now.”
“Commercials for medicine should just be attractive people going about their days after the medicine works,” she added. “That’s what I want to see, not grotesque snot monsters.”
Soon thereafter both parties’ spirits were improved by an adorable advertisement for dog food.
