In disappointing news out of a bedroom in Orange County, CA, Taylor Brooke-Riggs’ porn experience was yet again ruined by unrealistic portrayals of people in their mid-twenties living in a nice apartment in the heart of Los Angeles at a very affordable price.
“Mainstream porn has always been full of unrealistic portrayals of sex,” says Taylor. “But to try to imagine having casual sex in a three-bedroom apartment in West Hollywood that’s only $2000 a month? It just really takes me out of it.”
These sad, unrealistic portrayals of sex contribute to many people feeling inadequate in the real world, both sexually and financially.
“I just felt so bad watching those people rawdogging it on a West Elm couch that they paid for in cash,” Taylor’s boyfriend, Shane Willis added. “Why did they have to state the exact rent price in the porn? And why did we have to know that utilities were included?”
Unrealistic portrayals like this have caused young, inexperienced people to expect this in the adult world, and are disappointed to find that most 22-year-olds live with roommates and generally cannot afford breast implants.
“Honestly, I’m angry. Angry at the industry for constructing this fantasy world,” Taylor adds. “For once, I want to see what $1500 really gets you in the heart of Los Angeles.”
Since this realization, Taylor and Shane have turned to amateur porn, where someone is overpaying for a sublet in Hollywood because they just moved there and didn’t know any better, or where two roommates have sex on a used couch they just bought on Craigslist.
“Amateur is really helping me realize that I don’t need to chase these crazy fantasies,” Shane said. “I can rawdog my girlfriend in the pool house I’m renting from my rich friend, and that is enough.”
