In a story highlighting the power of kindness, 27-year-old Nora Thorton has decided she will be wearing white to the wedding she’s attending this weekend so “the bride won’t feel alone.”
“When I saw that all my friends were going to be wearing every color but white to this wedding, I knew I had to do something,” Nora, who was browsing wedding gowns online, told reporters. “I couldn’t let that poor bride be the only one at the wedding wearing white! Now there’ll be two of us!”
Aww, how thoughtful!
Nora then proceeded to ask reporters if it would be weird of her to ask the bride how much her dress cost.
“It’s not that I want my dress to be more expensive than hers,” Nora said. “It’s just that I don’t want to disrespect her wedding by wearing something way under budget. Though I wouldn’t be surprised if my dress ends up being more expensive than hers. I’ve always had more extravagant taste than her.”
Nora added that she was planning on taking a photo with the bride at the wedding in their matching white gowns, so that everyone will know that she “stands” with the bride, and the bride won’t “look like an outcast.”
What a sweet gesture!
However, other wedding-goers felt that while her heart might be in the right place, ultimately, this choice was misguided and, honestly, insane.
“She’s going to do what?” Arya Yates, the maid of honor, asked reporters when she heard of Nora’s plans. “Doesn’t she have any wedding etiquette at all? Frankly, I will tackle her to the ground before she enters this wedding wearing a white dress. Can someone please relay this message to her for me? I don’t have her phone number. She’s literally just someone’s plus one.”
When Nora heard of Arya’s comments, she simply shook her head and laughed.
“The maid of honor said that?” she said. “Wow, she’s really failing in her duties, huh? She’s just going to let her friend take the altar wearing white, while everyone else is wearing pale green? She’s going to stand out so much! It would break my heart if my supposed ‘best friend’ would let me be publicly embarrassed like that. I should be the maid of honor instead!”
As of press time, Nora had gotten a fervent look in her eye, and had started reaching out to other people attending the wedding to see if anyone could give her the bride’s number.
