Adrenaline Junkie? This Woman Turned Off Her Alarms Even Though She Hadn’t Gotten Out of Bed Yet

Adrenaline junkies seek out a rush wherever they can find it. For 28-year-old Poppy Thompson, that rush comes in the form of turning off her alarms in the morning even though she hasn’t gotten out of bed yet and runs the risk of falling right back to sleep.

Wow, daredevil alert!

“I just live for the thrill,” Poppy told reporters. “Will I fall back asleep? Maybe. Will I miss my train? Who knows! Will I be two hours late for work and ultimately lose my job? There’s literally no way to tell. The danger is the fun part!”

Okay, Alex Honnold! What’s next? Free soloing El Cap?

In addition to turning off her alarms before she’s fully awake in the morning, Poppy said she also gets a rush of adrenaline from getting into the shower before the water’s fully warm, leaving her window cracked at night even though a bug could get in, and doing cocaine recreationally without testing it first.

Okay – wait, what was that last one?

“There’s no better feeling than turning off your alarms, closing your eyes, and leaving your fate up to the gods,” Poppy explained. “It’s such a rush. I feel the same way about indiscriminately using cocaine.”

Reporters now felt compelled to ask her about these questionable drug-using habits, but Poppy just plowed ahead with the alarm stuff.

“I know, I know, you probably think I’m crazy for turning off my alarms,” she said. “But I’ll tell you what I tell everyone else: life’s not worth living without a little bit of danger. And a lot of cocaine. Like, so much.”

Again, reporters felt Poppy was being a bit blasé about the whole cocaine thing, and asked her if she thought her “risky habits” were adding “unnecessary harm” to her life.

After mulling it over, Poppy agreed that her thrill-seeking habits might not be worth their potential consequences, and decided it was time to put her harmful alarm habits behind her and treat her life with more care.

“The blow keeps me up all night anyway, so the whole alarm thing has kind of lost its thrill,” she said.

Sure, that’s kind of a step in the right direction!
