Twenty-eight-year-old Riley Holt has spent the better part of her adult life trying to figure out what she’s passionate about and how she likes to spend her free time. Ultimately, all of that trial and error resulted in Riley learning that her main hobby is simply googling stuff.
“One time I was trying to google different hobbies to try, when I realized that I kinda just liked the googling aspect of looking for new hobbies,” Riley told reporters. “It took me almost another decade to then come to the realization that googling was my hobby.”
When reporters pressed her for more information on what that actually entails, Riley was more than happy to explain.
“Dog breeds, colors, houses on Zillow, ancient wars between long-forgotten empires…anything really! I just love googlin’.”
Riley added that she’ll sometimes find herself in a google hole and not know how she got there.
“I’ll come out of a googling haze and see that I’m on the Wikipedia page for Gloria Swanson and be like, ‘Where am I?’” Riley said. “Then I’ll have to retrace my steps and realize that what I initially googled was a recipe for chocolate chip cookies that eventually spiraled into a deep-dive into the history of film noir.”
Riley informed reporters that she first realized that googling might be her passion when she went to a pottery class for the first time.
“I spent the whole class googling different types of pottery for inspiration,” she said. “Then, obviously, I got sidetracked by a super interesting article about Ancient Greek pottery, and then of course I had to scroll twitter for a little. By the time the class ended, I realized I had been on my phone the whole time, and hadn’t even touched my mound of clay.”
Riley said that she experienced this phenomenon with almost every single hobby she has ever tried to get into.
“Turns out, I just love googling shit,” she said. “That’s a hobby whether people like it or not.”
Riley says there’s a certain thrill that comes with googling that she hasn’t experienced in any other pastime.
“You know that feeling when you’re watching a movie and you recognize an actor but can’t remember where you know them from?” she asked reporters. “Well, the feeling of tracking them down on Google and scratching that itch in your brain is what I live for.”
At press time, Riley had discovered that, in addition to googling, bar trivia is a pretty fun pastime, too.
“I know so many fucking facts,” she explained.
