In what might normally be seen as endearing news, 27-year-old Sophia Whitmer has brought yet another date to her local bookshop. While many consider bookshops to be a great first date location due to the opportunity they present to see what you and your date have in common, Sophia didn’t go there to exchange niceties or connect with another human being – she went there to point out every book she’s read and say, “Read that one…read that one…”
That’s certainly one way to get to know someone!
“It seemed pretty innocent at first,” Sophia’s date, Noah, told reporters. “But then when I would try to steer the conversation away from ‘books she’s read and their physical location within the store,’ she looked at me like I was suggesting we burn the place down for sport.”
Noah added that while he normally enjoys learning about the person he’s on a date with, Sophia wasn’t giving him much to work with.
“She wasn’t even saying whether or not she liked the books, or if they had impacted her in any way, like, at all,” he told reporters. “It was just, ‘Read that one…read that one…’ for an hour and 40 minutes.”
He even said that at one point during the date he thought she might be testing him and, not wanting to seem poorly read, he started pointing out the books he’d read as well.
Needless to say, that didn’t work out for him.
“When I pointed out a book I’d read and enjoyed recently, she just looked at me and was like, ‘I’ve never read that book before in my life,’ and then kept walking. I don’t even know what to make of that.”
When questioned about her reaction to Noah’s actions, Sophia just said, “Yeah, I’d never read that book? Not sure why he was pointing at it. But the store was closing in 30 minutes and I still had so many books to point out, so obviously I kept it moving.”
Makes sense!
As of press time, to everyone’s surprise, Noah and Sophia had scheduled a second date, with Noah saying, “What can I say? She’s read a lot of books, and she can recognize them by cover, like, so quick.”
Sophia just gave reporters a knowing look, pointed at a book in a nearby store window, and said, “Read that.”
Reporters had to admit they could understand Noah’s point of view.
