You’ve Got to Try Banana Peel Bacon – but Research If It’s a Prank or Not First

Drop everything you’re doing, because there is a new recipe that you’ve got to try right this instant. It’s called banana peel bacon, and it is unbelievable. All you’ll need are some washed banana peels, some common household spices and sauces, and a large skillet. Oh, and you’ll also want to grab a laptop so you can look up whether this is a prank or not. It kind of feels like one!

First things first, you’ll want to use the ripest bananas you can find. The riper the banana, the better the flavor of the bacon will eventually be. Yes, the flavor should ultimately be good, even though this entire recipe definitely seems like the kind of thing someone would make up to mess with you. Maybe Google “banana peel bacon real?” if you’re not convinced!

Once you’re relatively sure this whole thing is legitimate, you’ll want to rip the peels into separate strips and scrape off the stringy bits on the inside. While you’re doing this, it couldn’t hurt to casually ask your roommate if they’ve ever heard of someone eating “banana peel bacon” before. Observe their reaction carefully! If you don’t detect any sign of snickering, it’s time to move onto seasoning.

In a bowl, mix soy sauce, maple syrup, smoked paprika, and garlic powder together. Lay your strips in the mixture and let them soak for a minimum of ten minutes. In that time, feel free to look at the Wikipedia page for Chance’s new Punk’d show on Quibi and doublecheck that there aren’t any episodes about him tricking some idiots into eating trash. Nothing? Great!

Now that your peels are nice and flavorful, slap them in a large skillet of oil over medium heat and listen to that sizzle. Don’t forget to flip them regularly so they don’t burn, and also to continually check over your shoulder to make sure your friends aren’t running in, filming you and laughing.

At this point, your peels should be about 95% done and you should be about 50% sure this is a real thing people are supposed to do. Slide the strips off the pan and let them drain on a paper towel. Make sure to let them cool, as this will allow their crispiness to increase! In the meantime, be sure to ask Siri if you’ve just been made a fool of.

When done, try throwing those delicious strips on a sandwich, in a salad, or just enjoy them on their own! Tasty, right? Probably don’t offer any to friends just yet though. You’re still not that sure!
