Yikes! White Friend Asking Uber Driver About His Ethnic Background

Having white friends can be fulfilling and convenient in many ways, like when you want to shop without being followed or if you need someone to bring to a Billy Idol concert. But all is not well for Kennedy Harding: This poor woman’s white friend is asking their Uber driver about his ethnicity. Yikes!

“I spent some time abroad in Spain – are you Spanish?” Hannah Kelly asked the man, who is just trying to do his job. “You look like you could be Iberian, at least.”

Hannah went on to further embarrass herself in front of Kennedy, the driver, and God.

“I speak un pequeño espanol,” she said to your driver, whose name is Ahmed. “And I had to learn a whole song in Hindi for my high school’s International Week Fest.”

“Are you Indian? Or Maybe Pakistani? I know the difference,” she added, clearly unaware of the history there.

Wow! What is she hoping to accomplish with this?

Kennedy is torn.

“I love Hannah, but she does shit like this all the time,” she said. “I don’t know how much longer I can tolerate her ordering from the taco truck in broken Spanish or telling any Asian person she meets about how much she loves sushi.”

“Wow, now that I’ve said that out loud, I should probably stop hanging out with her. It’s making me look bad,” Kennedy added.

You’re right about that, Kennedy! There goes your Uber rating!

But Hannah shows no signs of stopping.

“Wait, no, you’re Southeast Asian, Filipino maybe?” she said. “Or Thai? Are you mixed? I’m dying to know!”

“I’m Irish and Italian, in case you wanted to know mine first,” she added.

He definitely doesn’t, Hannah!
