Why I Think Men Who Scam Are Bad but Women Who Scam Are Actually So Valid

The two new Netflix original releases The Tinder Swindler and Inventing Anna are both centered around people who made a living off of scamming others, and in spite of their apparent similarities, it couldn’t be more clear that the Tinder Swindler is way worse than Anna Sorokin because men who scam are basically evil, and women who scam have likely faced significant trauma and are totally valid!

When men scam people out of money I think it’s disgusting, cruel, and immoral, especially if they’re scamming women! I mean, don’t men already have enough? Do they seriously need to take advantage of women to get even more in life? However, when women scam, I believe that it’s because they did what they had to do, and how can we really blame them for it? They’re probably not really hurting anyone anyway, especially if they were scamming rich people out of their money.

On the other hand, men who scam should get no sympathy at all, and I stand by that.

Also, something important to add to the conversation is the fact that women on average get paid less than men. So isn’t it kind of their right to scam people for more money? It actually seems like when women scam it’s more about gender equality than personal gain when you really think about it. And trust me, I have!

Plus, when you learn about men who scam, it’s pretty depressing and anxiety-inducing to watch, but when women do it it’s like, “Okay, slay!”

Take for example when Shimon Hayut used his money for atrocious designer shirts while Anna Sorokin used it to serve some actual looks. In a perfect world no one should be committing fraud – we can all agree on that, but when people do it shouldn’t they use it to actually look good? If they do the right things with the money, like looking great while sitting in court, then it’s definitely forgivable, if not a total #mood!

So while it goes without saying that anyone committing fraud or scamming people out of their money is inherently bad, I do think that when women do it it’s a little less bad, especially when Julia Garner plays them in a new Netflix series!
