Why I Stopped Using Dating Apps and Started Dating My Daughter’s Childhood Celebrity Crushes

Dating in your forties can be tough. I’ve tried meeting men through friends, by going to bars, and trying just about every app you can think of. Still, I haven’t found anyone who I could imagine fitting into the life that I’ve curated for myself – which is why I decided to make a change. I stopped using dating apps and started dating my daughter’s childhood celebrity crushes, and I’m never looking back!

The idea dawned on me when I got stuck doing the most boring thing possible: going to the highly anticipated Coachella music festival with my daughter and her friends. I was prepared to spend the all-access weekend moping around, upset that I wasn’t going on a solo camping trip, but then I met the lead singer of my daughter’s favorite childhood boy band, and everything clicked! Sparks flew between me and Hayes Campbell, the front man of August Moon, and I realized that my dating life could flourish if I only dated men who my daughter was obsessed with in the seventh grade.

During my electric romance with Hayes, I also happened to slide into the DMs of Zac Efron, Jesse McCartney, and Corbin Bleu, three other men who my daughter would not stop talking about when she was a pre-teen but I never actually knew who they were — until now. Currently, I have dates scheduled with all of them, respectively, and I can’t wait to dodge the paparazzi around town with them!

As you can imagine, my daughter Izzy isn’t exactly thrilled about my dating prospects. She says she’s happy that I’m finding love after my divorce, but that it’s still a little weird that all the men I’m dating happen to be guys who she had crushes on when she was in middle school. However, I think she might just be a bit jealous. Sorry, hun, but your mom beat you to the punch! David Henrie isn’t really my type, though, so I told her that she can still have first dibs on him.

While keeping these budding romances hidden from the public can be pretty taxing on me and on the relationships, it still sure beats having to message people on Hinge or Bumble. Even better, these men are all keeping me in business because they keep buying all the art in my gallery with their Disney Channel earnings to win my affection! Not only have I found love with all of these former heartthrobs, I’ve found more financial freedom than I’ve ever had, which I didn’t even think was possible! Thank you, Coachella!
