Salon Experts Confirm You Should Only Be Washing Your Pubes Once a Week

It’s common knowledge that the best thing you can do for hair is not wash it every day. But now, salon experts are saying the same is true for your hair down there. That’s right! Turns out, you should also only be washing your pubes once a week.

“A lot of women are washing their pubes every day,” says hairstylist Veronica McNab. “They come into my salon because their pubes are super dry and breaking and they don’t know why.”

Basically, shampoo strips your hair of essential oils leaving it drier and more delicate, which is why keeping shampoo away from your head is so useful in preventing breakage – and the same goes for your pubes.

Experts are warning that too much product can keep your bush from looking full and voluminous throughout the day and can also lead to split ends. Instead of a daily cleanse, experts are recommending that women wash their pubes once a week and the rest of the week use a dry shampoo to keep the pubes looking fresher, longer.

Of course, shampoo is even more damaging to dyed or highlighted pubes.

“If you have highlights in your pubes, it’s doubly important to keep washing to a minimum,” says celebrity hair colorist Debbie Habberman. “A rinse with water is fine, but any shampoo is going to strip that pube balayage or ombré right out.”

A wash a week is also a great way to preserve natural curls and keep them from getting frizzy. But it’s also helpful for those who want to style their pubes as well.

“I tell my clients that dirty pubes are actually easier to style,” says Habberman. “It’s hard for clean hair to hold a curl, but if your pubes are dirty it’s really easy to go in with a curling iron and get that beachy, wavy pube look that’s so popular right now.”

For those who want to shower but save their pubes, experts are recommending investing in a good shower cap but for pubes.

“I just pop on a little pube cap and then get in the shower,” says McNab. “It makes it so much easier and then I can just restyle my pubes with an iron and some hairspray. Or I’ll add a little pomade for a sleek look.”

This new information is incredibly enlightening and will hopefully help more women rock a natural bush in the future. Listen to pros, ladies! And happy pubin!
