With wellness trends on the rise, lots of people are searching for methods on how to live healthier, happier, and longer lives. Luckily, Miriam Gladwell, who recently turned 106 years old, is offering up all of her secrets to live past 100, even though none of them sound like they’re actually worth the trouble.
When asked about her diet, Miriam had a lot to say about her undesirable regimen.
“I’ve always eaten plenty of vegetables every day, even for breakfast,” Miriam told reporters. “And I very rarely eat dessert. I’ve also abstained from drinking and smoking because of the effects I’ve seen it have on other people, and it looks like I was right about it after all these years!”
Miriam also lent her advice about the importance of staying in shape, no matter how unappealing it may sound.
“I don’t think I would’ve gotten to the age I am now if I didn’t do at least 30 minutes of exercise every day,” she continued. “Nothing good will come from sitting around and wasting the day by doing nothing. If you want to live a long life, then you need to stay active!”
When her 28-year-old granddaughter Melissa Gladwell, who sat beside her during Miriam’s interview, was asked about her thoughts on her grandmother’s life advice, she was not exactly enthusiastic about it.
“I can definitely see how all of these practices led her to live such a long, happy life,” Melissa said. “But honestly it just sounds like too much trouble. Laying around and doing nothing is one of my favorite hobbies. If I can’t do that and live past 100 years old then that’s actually totally fine with me. I don’t need to live that long anyway.”
Upon hearing this, Miriam surprisingly celebrated her granddaughter’s contrasting answer.
“Everyone has their own path in life,” Miriam said. “I never want to infringe upon my grandchildren’s wishes. After all, I also owe my long life to all of my beautiful children and grandchildren! They really keep me young. If you want to live longer, I’d also suggest having lots of kids.”
As of press time, Melissa had still not taken up any of the life practices that Miriam had recommended, and had actually doubled down on her sugar-dominated diet while also scheduling an appointment to get her tubes tied.
