Wow! Teachers really can do it all! Alicia Laquez is proving that she’s equipped for literally anything this pandemic can throw at her, by including her will in next year’s lesson plan.
Get it, girl! And don’t forget life insurance!
Even though Alicia is just a couple years from what she thought would be her retirement, she’s stepping up to the plate in ways our government can’t, by figuring out how to teach over Zoom, preparing for the challenges of teaching masked eight-year-olds, and now writing her very own living will!
Alicia is strong in her resolve to get it all done.
“I don’t really see any other way,” she says. “I live off my teaching income and I want to make sure my kids have something if I’m gone. I’m five years away from earning a pension, so I’m kind of being held hostage for that.”
Awwwww! Hug a teacher today!
Alicia’s will even leaves all her children’s books to her students.
“A lot of my kids don’t have many resources at home. And the district doesn’t give us much money for supplies so I buy my own. I want to make sure there’s something for them, at least this year, if the virus gets me.”
Whoa! So selfless!
We salute you Alicia, and all the other teachers who are preparing for fall along with their potential deaths!
