I LIVED IT: I Invested in Myself and Now I Can’t Get Out

I Lived it:

It’s no secret that with so much going on, people often put ourselves last. We’re all so busy, it can be easy to forget about personal development. So after years of feeling like I just wasn’t reaching my full potential I finally decided to invest all of my resources into my most valuable asset – me!

I was so excited to become the very best version of myself – unfortunately, though, it looks like I may have been a very bad investment and now I can’t get out.

The goal of investing in yourself can look different for everyone. For me it meant trying to improve my career, social life, and overall happiness through vague corporate-speak and spending lots of money. The market might have been highly volatile but so am I so I figured this was a match made in heaven! Unfortunately now I cannot stop doing this. Can anyone help me escape this prison?

The red flags were there from the beginning but I went in hard anyway. Gym membership, meditation apps, happy hours I for some reason organized. Not to mention the nonstop hydrating. Now I’m trapped in an endless cycle of podcasts and vision boards deep in my own personal recession. I don’t know exact percentages but I would probably guess I’m down something like 645%. Does that sound possible? I might need some legal advice or maybe an expert on deprogramming.

I know what you’re thinking: Just pull out. Well I would love to, but I don’t know how. My exit strategy at parties is usually to say I’m going to the bathroom and then just leave and hope nobody notices but that isn’t working here! How could this happen to me, someone with little to no knowledge of how investments work who lied about watching the Bernie Madoff documentary?

It’s probably too late for me to break even on myself so all I can do now is tell my story and try to help others avoid making the same mistakes I did. So take it from me and do NOT waste your time investing in yourself. Take charge of your own destiny and invest in something guaranteed to give you a solid return, like another subscription service or a wheel of brie. There’s no such thing as a sure thing in the world of investing but there’s a sure NOT thing and that’s me.

The only investment advice you’ll ever need from is this: Don’t invest in yourself. You aren’t worth it, girl! There’s always a chance you could be your own most profitable investment but there’s also a chance you’re probably definitely not!

You’ll thank me later.
