How to Follow Your Dreams Unless They Are Hard

We all have that one big dream that we tuck away in our hearts because we tell ourselves it’s too ambitious or frivolous to chase. It’s unrealistic, we say, and it would be embarrassing if we failed. But all dreams are worth following and yours is no different. Unless, of course, it’s really hard. Here’s how to pursue your passion at all costs, unless it requires literally any sort of effort or purposeful action on your part.

Break it Down

Break your dream into several smaller, actionable goals and deadlines and write them down where you can see them every day. That is, unless you can’t find a pen or a sticky note. Looking for one is probably more hassle than it’s worth, especially since seeing those notes every day would just intimidate you until you gave up anyway. It’s just too hard!

Get Inspired

Identify your idols and immerse yourself in their work. Read everything your favorite author has ever written, buy prints of your favorite artist’s paintings, watch your favorite actor’s best performances over and over. Unless you don’t feel like it! Then just follow them on Instagram and call it a day. While you’re there, don’t forget to scoot over to your ex’s ex’s account and see what the fuck she’s up to. Dreams are a sham and you’re better off without them!

Cut out Distractions

Cancel your Netflix subscription, skip weekly brunch with the girls, it’s time to focus! Unless you haven’t seen every episode of The Crown, or there’s literally any conspiracy theory you haven’t gone balls deep in. Your dreams will still be there when you’re done, and at least you’ll know the truth about JonBenet Ramsey.

Don’t Listen to Haters

If you’re following your dreams, you can bet people around you are gonna have something to say about it. Don’t listen to them! Unless they like, have a point. Then, by all means, let it wreck you and derail your success. They’re probably right anyway, your dream IS stupid!

Grab a Partner

Ask a friend to hold you accountable by checking in with you about your goals: did you run your four miles today? Did you turn off your phone, lock the door, and write for one hour? Unless you don’t want to be held accountable, then just keep your dreams to yourself and never talk about them.

Establish Rewards

Establishing a reward system is a great way to keep the goal-oriented mind on track. Give yourself a small reward when you meet milestones, or give yourself a BIG reward no matter what. Just thinking about goals is hard, so be sure to celebrate yourself often. You deserve it!

Remember to stay positive and never give up on your dreams! But also consider that giving up on your dreams would be a huge weight off your shoulders. So if you feel like giving up, definitely just do that instead.
