After Taylor Swift was revealed to be dating Matty Healy, the lead singer of the band The 1975 who’s been accused of racism, misogyny, and Islamophobia, Swifties everywhere came to the shocking realization that their favorite singer, who was held in high regard by mostly white women, might only really care about white women.
“I just can’t believe she would date someone as vile as Matty Healy,” one Taylor Swift fan, Alexandra Smith, said. “It’s like, yeah, she might have flown her private jet more than any other celebrity last year and has never worked with a Black woman artist until this month, but I thought she was more progressive than this!”
Despite Taylor Swift starring in the documentary Miss Americana where she weighs the decision to speak out against ring-wing politicians because of the fear of losing her Republican fan base, many fans of the country-turned-pop singer are still in disbelief that she might not actually be dedicated to fighting for social change.
“How do you go from making the ‘You Need to Calm Down’ music video to dating someone so hateful?” another Swiftie named Emily M. Greene said. “Sure, she’s been totally silent about the terrifying wave of anti-trans bills being proposed and passed in multiple states all over the country, but she still did that little dance with the Fab Five! I just wish we could go back to the Joe Alwyn era, when I could still pretend that she’s not a white feminist.”
Despite the outrage over Taylor Swift’s dating choices among the Swifties, many of them have still expressed their excitement about attending her Eras Tour.
“Yeah, it’s pretty messed up,” another Swiftie fan, who wanted to remain anonymous, said. “But I have front row tickets and I intend to buy a sweatshirt there, too. She’s everything to me!”
