Out of Podcasts? Here’s How to Eavesdrop on Other People’s Conversations

Well, the worst finally happened: you’re completely out of podcasts to listen to. But don’t fret — even though you just heard the last minutes of the one remaining new episode in your library, that doesn’t mean you have to listen to nothing! Instead of trying to find another inspiring podcast with episodes you’ve never listened to, here’s how to find brand new content by simply eavesdropping on conversations between total strangers:

Spot the most interesting convo.

Despite popular belief, not all conversations are created equal. Whether you venture to a coffee shop, a restaurant, or a public park, you have to be sure that the people you quietly sit near will actually have something interesting to say. Make the best decision by looking at people’s expressions: Are they laughing? Are their jaws dropping? Are they looking around them to make sure the person they’re gossiping about isn’t there? If any of these are true, then they could be the right people to replace your precious podcast hosts with. Go forth and listen in!

Be inconspicuous.

Remember to wear sunglasses and maybe even some headphones that aren’t plugged into anything. Since the people you’re listening to can actually hear and see you, you should also make sure not to slip up and accidentally loudly chuckle or make a comment like, “Nooo!” or “Yesss!” or “Okay wait I don’t agree with that at all actually!” If the people you’re eavesdropping on figure out that you’re listening to them, their banter will likely take a severe hit, as they will probably pivot to talking about you. Boring!

Bring your laundry.

Since the time you spend listening to podcasts is usually when you choose to tackle your chores and errands for the day, think ahead by bringing a load of clean clothes that you can fold while you listen to the friend group drama that Jenna and another person (maybe Lou?) are talking about in front of you. You can also bring a furry friend to walk if you’re outside — just remember to stay within a 10-foot radius between you and the strangers you’re actively listening to.

Running out of podcasts to listen to is one of the worst things that can ever happen to a person, but luckily for you, it doesn’t have to be the end of the world. You’re practically surrounded by podcast hosts everyday — you just need to listen! Follow these tips and you may never feel the need to listen to another podcast ever again, unless you get caught, and then it might be time to browse for another weekly pod.
