How I Stopped Hiding My Smoking Habit From My Kids by Letting Them Join Me

Motherhood is tough as it is, but when you add in a smoking habit you want to keep from your children, it can be almost impossible to juggle it all. However, after years of smoking cigarettes in secret whenever my kids were occupied, I’ve vowed to never keep my addiction from them again. No, I’m not talking about quitting. Why would you even think that? I’m letting my kids smoke cigarettes with me!

We’ve honestly never been closer!

Of course, when I started smoking in my teens, the thought that I may have to conceal this habit from my future children never really occurred to me, but the burden of always handing off my newborn baby and his 6-year-old sister to my partner or the sitter so I could take a smoke break has now been slowly eating away at me, That is, until I had the revelation: “Why am I isolating myself from my kids when we should be participating in activities together?” That’s when I offered both of my kids their very own cigarettes.

They were thrilled, and so was I! Now, we’re finally one big, happy, smoking family!

Of course, I did run into some criticism from other parents when I brought up the idea initially. No matter who I talked to, it was always, “Are you sure you really want to do that?” or ‘There has to be another option,” or “I will literally call CPS you.” Obviously, I didn’t tell any of them that I actually started smoking with my kids because of their very clear threats, but I honestly feel sorry for them. After all, they’ll never have the kind of bond that I have with my children which you can only really get by smoking a cig outside in the cold together.

Don’t worry, I always make sure my kids are dressed in their warmest clothes when we’re smoking outside!

It’s been so relieving to finally drop the facade I’ve been keeping up of “not being a smoker” for all these years. I believe that parents should always be honest with their children, and they should be generous with them as well. That’s why I’m giving each of my kids their own pack of cigarettes this week.

Not to toot my own horn or anything, but I’m expecting my “Mom of the Year” award any day now.
