Melissa Green has been at Olympia High longer than any other teacher there, and she’s also the least paid. We caught up with her during try-outs for the upcoming football season. When asked about the lack of Black history in her curriculum, she answered, “Why would I be teaching about Black history at football try-outs?”
After we reminded her that we were talking about her history class, she responded, “Oh! I haven’t taught history in years! I’m the PE teacher now.” But this was strange, because she’s still employed as the history teacher for two different classes, to which she explained, “Right. I guess those are just kinda study halls now!”
