How to Enjoy Your Weekend Even Though You Feel Morally Obligated to Go to the Farmers’ Market

It might be difficult to accept, but you can have a rich and fulfilling weekend without going to the farmers’ market. People spend their weekends in millions of different, fulfilling ways – shopping at the farmers’ market isn’t the only right way to Saturday! You’re not a bad person for not buying a bunch of plums that are going to go bad. Free yourself from this mindset and embrace the peace of not going – here’s how:

Make a plan for yourself.

Sleep in, go for a run, grab coffee with some friends, go to the farmers’ market – fuck, no, you don’t have to go to the farmers’ market! You went last week, you have enough vegetables. They’re going to go bad! It’s hot outside and you’re going to sweat so much! Stay inside! You don’t have to go! Stop!

Remember that there’s a whole world out there that you’re not experiencing, too.

Yeah, you feel super guilty for not waking up early enough to go to the farmers’ market every weekend and for some reason view that as a moral failing on your part, but it’s important to keep in mind that there’s a whole world out there that you’re not experiencing either! So, why get hung up on this one thing you’re not doing? Put down that tote bag, go back to bed, and try to be okay with sleeping being your favorite thing to do. We said put it down!

Just walk by the farmers’ market.

Remember: you don’t even like the farmers’ market. The last time you went, you bought a ton of tomatoes and had to make a complicated tomato soup that still didn’t taste as good as Campbell’s. There’s no reason to dedicate part of this weekend to buying too many green beans! Satisfy your urge to be the kind of person who goes to the farmers’ market on Saturday morning by waking up late, walking by where the farmers are packing up their stands, then taking a detour to Dunkin’ instead! That’s where your heart truly lies. You don’t need to buy the last head of broccoli from the only stand that’s still open. That’s bad broccoli.

If you follow these simple tips, you’ll finally be able to enjoy your weekend without feeling morally and spiritually compelled to buy a bunch of produce from the farmers’ market. You can skip it entirely, eat some Fruity Pebbles, and still be a good person! Wait, why are you setting your alarm for 7 a.m.? You don’t have to go!
