There’s been a lot of uproar about the recent election, and I totally get that, because politics is important to some people I guess. It’s just … been an entire week already, and people are still talking about it. This confuses me cause it’s not that big of a deal, so I just wanted to come out and say it explicitly: Relax, babe. It’s not going to be that bad.
I know you’re afraid for a second Trump presidency because you care about women and immigrants and trans people and basically just all people, but it’s literally going to be fine. Trump says he’s going to do a bunch of stuff, and then he barely does it. Like, yeah, he said he was going to overturn Roe v. Wade last time, but he barely did that. You’re being hysterical. Calm down.
You’re entitled to your emotions or whatever, but you genuinely need to chill the fuck out. Like, the emotions are a lot, and it’s starting to get hard to comfort you, not that I’ve tried. We survived the last Trump presidency pretty much unscathed, and you don’t see me complaining!
I know the result is tough, but everyone has to endure periods where they don’t like the president, and we can’t get upset about that. Sure, there’s a difference between “not liking a president for his economic policy” and “not liking a president because he’s endorsed by white supremacists” but not that much of a difference.
I’ve been trying to hold space for your emotions by only rolling my eyes instead of interrupting, but it’s getting really hard. You legit need to relax. I can’t hear about your “organizing efforts” for the next four years, okay? I’m just one man. Just settle in, get complacent, accept your fate, and stop freaking out for no reason. Sure, the last Trump presidency ended in a botched COVID response that led to the loss of hundreds of thousands of lives, but that just happens sometimes. And nothing like it will happen again. You’re being crazy.
I’ll give you another couple of days to mope, but then you’ve got to shut up about it already. It’s not like this is going to have long-term consequences for the climate or abortion or birthright citizenship or trans healthcare. Wait…he said what?
